Goodwill, in partnership wtith the Pine Manor Improvement Association, offers kitchen training and certification classes.  Food Service is a rapidly growing career field.  Don't miss your opportunity!

2 Week Culinary Class with a Class fee of $20.00

Jump Start your career in Culinary.  Earn your SafeStaff Foodhandler Certificate.  Become familiar with knife management, kitchen terminology, and cooking techniques. Chef Pyro Rodriguez of Pryo's Creations and Ashley Oakerstrom will prepare you to be successful as you start your culinary career. (Application Fee Based on Income)

Why Food Service?

The hospitality and leisure industry (including food service) is projected to add more than 2-3 million jobs in the next six years, with a 6% projected increase in restaurant server jobs alone.

Food service employees have many opportunities for advancement: 

  • Eighty-five percent of the entry level workforce is eligible for promotion in just one year.
  • The career ladder can lead to a department manager role in as little as two years.
  • Most jobs only require a high school education or GED.

Teen Culinary Program

Pine Manor and Goodwill will offer 2 teen programs in 2017- A one week class will be held April 10-13 (over Spring Break) with a focus on healthly cooking and a 3 week Summer Bootbamp starting June 12th.

Students Will Learn:

Basic math and science needed to operate a kitchen successfully

How to prepare basic stocks, sauces, and other items

How to plan, prepare and execute a menu for a five-course meal and basic buffet

How to design a professional resume for work in the food service industry
Basic cooking techniques (sautéing, braising, roasting, grilling)
Graduates will earn SafeStaff Food Handler Certificate


Program Requirements and Details:

Enrollment in the Goodwill/Pine Manor Kitchen Training and Certification Program is limited per session. Training is held in the licensed commercial kitchen at the Pine Manor Community Center.
